| GERMAN SCHOLORSHIPS |
The scholarships offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) are awarded to younger university graduates from all academic disciplines as well as from the fields of music and art (and, in exceptional cases, to advanced students). Support is also available for young academics and scientists, university teachers and groups completing study visits under the guidance of a university teacher. This support is largely financed from public funds made available via the Federal Foreign Office |
The applicant's academic qualification and personal suitability are the decisive factors in all scholarship award decisions. The DAAD Selection Committees will above all base their decision on the proof of academic achievement which students submit (credits, certificates, etc.), on professorial testimonials, references or reports, as well as on a description of the study or research project in question. |
Scholarships are available for stays at state (public) or state-recognised institutions of higher education in Germany , as well as at non-university research institutes. |
As a rule, the minimum age for application is 18. The age limit for most programmes is 32. |
| |
| Application and selection procedures |
| While Issuing a Scholarship for a Higher education in a German educational institution the following selection criteria will be taken into consideration: |
| |
|
Previous academic achievements and examination results as well as the applicant's particular knowledge in his or her academic field. |
| |
 |
Written confirmation by a German professor that he or she will provide academic supervision for the applicant; proof of contacts between the applicant's home and host institutions. |
| |
 |
Where appropriate, proof of German language proficiency. |
 |
General questions of character and personality which can contribute to the success of a stay abroad. |
| |
|
Where appropriate, the significance of the proposed project to the development policy of the home country. |
| |
 |
The extent to which the applicant will be able to apply the experience gained in Germany in the home country |
| |
|
|
As a rule, a pre-selection committee in the applicant's home country will pre-select and/or evaluate all incoming applications.
The final selection decision will generally be made by a committee of German university teachers in Bonn. |
| |
|
| Application papers |
The respective programme description provides detailed information on the papers and documents required for application. Applications can only be processed when all the relevant papers and documents have been submitted in full. Most programmes require these to be submitted in multiple. Incomplete applications cannot be processed by the DAAD and will result in the applicant's exclusion from the selection procedure. |
| |
| German language proficiency |
| The level of German language proficiency which applicants require is primarily dependent on the intended study or research project. Foreign students who wish to register at a German higher education institution will, as a rule, be required to present proof of adequate proficiency in the German language. |
| |
| Scholarship value |
The DAAD generally differentiates made between individual scholarships and group programmes. Besides a monthly payment, which the DAAD sets on the basis of the scholarship holder's academic level, individual scholarships are generally made up of travel expenses, health, accident and personal/private liability insurance. Details are contained in the individual programme descriptions. |

Many overseas students studying in Ireland are sponsored by their own governments or through other international scholarship programmes. in most cases applications should be made through the ministry of Education in the student's home country.
The competition for scholarships and grants to study in the UK in the is very strong. Most grant-making organizations will insist that you meet some very strict requirements. If you do not meet all the requirements for a grant, then your application will not be considered.
When you apply for a grant remember: |
| |
 |
You must apply for your grant at least one year before your course starts. Deadlines very, so you must check that you know what the deadline is before applying. |
| |
 |
Your application should be clear and concise. You should use the grant-making body's application form if it has one. |
| |
 |
The majority of the grant-making bodies will only give small amounts of money, which will not cover the full cost of a course. |
