The degree to which utility costs are included in your rent varies across the accommodation available. You will receive information about the rates at which fuel is charged upon your arrival and you will be able to monitor your own usage throughout the year.

Any student with a personal TV will require a license and in addition a separate license is required for any TV in a communal area. The TV Licensing Authority makes periodic checks and Licensing Officers are authorised to enter your accommodation for the purposes of making enquiries. Some accommodation includes a license for any TV in communal areas and you should double-check this before you arrive.

Full-time students living in accommodation blocks with other students are fully exempt from Council Tax.

Most of the accommodations offered has insurance included within the weekly rent.  It is advisable to check your contract to ensure you are covered.  Make sure that the policy will provide sufficient to cover your personal items.

If you make your application via the university's accommodation office, you will share your flat only with other new students. Flats which have shared bathroom facilities will usually contain students of the same gender whereas en-suite flats may be mixed. If you choose accommodation close to the building in which your course is taught then it is highly likely that you will be sharing with other students on similar courses.

If you wish to live in a mixed or same gender flat, please indicate this prior to you booking your flat.

If you wish to share your accommodation with a friend, please indicate this as a special request top thje accomdation incahge of your flat and make sure that your friend does the same. We will do our best to accommodate these wishes.

If you visit the university on an Open Day you will be shown an example of a typical study bedroom but of course this may not be at one of your selected locations. Unfortunately due to the number of students the universities deal with, the Accommodation Office cannot arrange for individual visits but you are free to contact the accommodation directly and make your own arrangements.

Some students such as those on Teaching and Nursing courses have different requirements from ordinary undergraduate students - including different start and finish dates and different exam timetables. Where possible the Accommodation Office groups such students together unless they specifically request to live with students on different courses.

You will be able to secure your accommodation in most cases if someone is able to send in a deposit on your behalf and explain the reasons why you are not able to sign the tenancy agreement. You will need to sign your agreement as soon as possible upon your return.

ou will need to bring your personal bedding (e.g. sheet, pillows and pillow cases, blankets or duvet). Most shared kitchens do not contain crockery or cutlery, but it is advisable to bring the bare minimum with you at first (e.g. plate, mug, bowl, knife, fork and spoon). On arrival you will be able to decide with your new flatmates what items are required and then purchase them communally. Irons and ironing boards are usually provided in the on-site launderettes.

lthough your accommodation contract may commence early in September, it is recommended that you do not arrive in at the university too far ahead of the start of your course. Enrolment activities for academic year 2005/06 will take place over a three day period from 16 to 18 September 2005 and detailed instructions on your enrolment 'slot' will be sent to you nearer this date.

The majority of accommodation will allow friends to stay over for one or two nights.  You should check your tenancy agreement as this will outline the rules in this area.  Remember that if your friend causes any damage or disruption to then you may be held liable.

ou should always contact the local management in the first instance as they are best placed to rectify any problems.

Student Wardens will operate in most of the accommodation listed here and they will be able to help with many of the problems you may encounter.  In addition to this every halls of residence has a number of support services such as Student Welfare and Counselling, who provide a confidential service if you need to talk.  The Students Union also provides a number of clubs and societies, which you can join to meet people.

Most of the accommodation sites offer rooms to second and third year students and (subject to availability) you will be able to stay on for longer than one year if you wish. Because every university requires a certain number of rooms to be set aside for each intake of new students, you may not be able to secure the same room in future years.
